Depending on the total emissions of the BECCS supply chain, BECCS can result in net negative emissions (IPCC AR6 WGIII). Note that numerous non-energy-related sources of biogenic emissions, such as fermentation and biogas digestion, can also generate negative emissions when the resulting CO2 is captured (see Biomass carbon removal and storage).
